Feasibility Study
A Feasibility Study Proposal by Summum Welfare Industries
February 11, 2003
Purpose
- To determine the feasibility in the Poplar Grove neighborhood of a CTC including:
- StRUT Program (Students Recycling Used Technology)
- Webcasting and Streaming Media
- To determine other services supporting a CTC and benefiting the community
- To determine if support is sufficient for Summum to take the lead in this effort
Rationale
- Access to computing resources and skills is imperative in today’s society
- Computer literacy and software operating skills lead to higher paying jobs
- Summum is dedicated to contributing the quality of life of Poplar Grove
- Summum has computer expertise and equipment needed for CTC operation
- Summum has an operating Multi-Cultural Internet Radio Station and .TV Station
Action Steps
- Engage the stakeholders of a CTC facility in feasibility and planning process
- Start an advisory committee of stakeholders to guide a CTC development plan
- Form partnerships to fit the facility into existing community support programs
- Continue volunteer technology services in neighborhood and local businesses
- Begin volunteer service at nearby CTCs and in available neighborhood space
- Raise funds in a collaborative strategy with community partners
- Construct a building on the Summum property to house this and related activities
